Sunday November 5

2:00   Pre-festival Concert with Scandinavian Music & Dance by Minnesotan guests Ross Sutter, Art Bjorngjeld, Char & Bruce Bostrom at the Kodiak Public Library

 

Monday November 6

8:00 am – 12:00 pm – Music workshop at East Elementary

10:00 am – 3:00 pm Sami Exhibit on display in the Baranov Museum Temporary Exhibit Gallery.

2:30 – 4:30 Norwegian Coffee House at the Kodiak Public Library. Enjoy light refreshment with a Scandinavian ambiance, pick up schedules, and, sign the Festival Guest Book and plan your week of fun. Library Staff are on hand as your festival concierges.

2:30- 5:00 Cooking Demonstration with Betsy Lund featuring the traditional Scandinavian potato flatbread Lefse. Kodiak Public Library

7:00  Opening Ceremonies – Honouring families at the Afognak Cultural Center
Premiere showing of Kodiak’s Scandinavian Sugpiaqs part 1 – Mystery of the Homeland.
Admission: $12 for Adults. Children under 12 free. Includes light refreshments and prize drawing.

 

Tuesday November 7

8:00 am – 12:00 pm – Music workshop at Main Elementary

10:00 am – 3:00 pm Sami Exhibit on display in the Baranov Museum Temporary Exhibit Gallery.

11:30 – 4:00 Norwegian Coffee House at the Kodiak Public Library featuring popular Scandinavian films and paper crafts.

2:30-6:30 Live-Culture and Nordic Traditions & Games by the Society of Creative Anachronism at the Kodiak Public Library.

7:00 Film Premiere Kodiak’s Scandinavian Sugpiags – Part 2  Pride of Scandinavia – Kodiak Baptist Mission.
Admission: $12 for Adults. Children under 12 free.

 

Wednesday November 8

8:00 am – 12:00 pm – Music workshop at North Star Elementary

10:00 am – 3:00 pm Sami Exhibit on display in the Baranov Museum Temporary Exhibit Gallery.

11:30 – 4:00 Norwegian Coffee House at the Kodiak Public Library – Genealogical “Who Am I” Stories, Tips, and Strategies for Your Heritage Quest. Drop in anytime to share your heritage quest stories and connections. Library Staff will demonstrate the ancestry.com and Heritage Quest databases.

2:30 – 4:00 Genealogy and Storytelling at the Kodiak Public Library.- Local “Viking Royalty, Linda Kozak, will present her genealogical adventures.

4:00 Mouth Bow Workshop with Ross Sutter – Fisherman’s Hall

7:00 Finnish influence on Kodiak Architecture – Jim Dillard at the Baranov Museum

 

Thursday November 9

6:00 Island Viking Lodge Sons of Norway Christmas bake sale in foyer of the Gerald Wilson Auditorium (Proceeds go to Scholarship Fund)

7:00 Film premiere Kodiak’s Scandinavian Sugpiaqs Part 3 Scandinavian Kodiak Islanders  – at the Gerald Wilson Auditorium Choral pod
Admission: $12 for Adults. Children under 12 free.

 

Friday November 10

8:00 am – 12:00 pm – Music workshop for private schools and homeschool students

Noon – 1:00 pm Lunch & Learn at the Baranov Museum featuring Sami Cultural Experts Lois Stover, Pearl Johnson and Cherie Biddle

6:00 Cross Cultural Potluck – Afognak Center – Join us for a multi-cultural evening as we share food, music & dance from all over the world. Great doorprizes donated from Kodiak’s benevolent businesses!

 

Saturday November 11

10:00 am – 3:00 pm Sami Exhibit on display in the Baranov Museum Temporary Exhibit Gallery.

11:00 Cross Cut Saw Event – Kodiak Baptist Mission Barn -This is going to be fun! Don’t miss it! Refreshments served.
